Project Description
Project Tundra proposes a carbon capture system at the 455 MW Milton R Young Station.
The project aims to equip Unit 2 at the coal-based power station with technologies, which will capture more than 90% of the carbon dioxide emitted from the facility.
The carbon dioxide will then be permanently stored in a deep geologic formation, more than 1.5 km underground.
In addition to research on the carbon dioxide capture system, Minnkota is also conducting significant research on deep geologic storage of carbon dioxide near the Young station.
Potential Job Creation
It is estimated that the construction of the project would create an additional 2 000 temporary construction jobs in the Oliver and Mercer counties.
Capital Expenditure
Project Tundra is estimated to cost $1-billion.
Planned Start/End Date
The project is still in the research and feasibility stages, but construction would need to begin before the end of 2023 for the project to be successful.
